What Is a Season?

A season is a unit of time characterized by weather and specific activities. It is divided into four parts: spring, summer, autumn, and winter. Each season is unique to a region. In football, an example of a season is the AFC Championship Game. While the game is unique to this region, it demonstrates how seasons affect teams and their players.

The fall season starts in September when the first leaves change colour. The frosty nights follow soon thereafter, and migratory birds begin to migrate south. This is a good time for hunting and harvesting nature. You can also enjoy snowmobiling, ice fishing, and skiing. You will feel the change in nature in this season and be a part of this incredible climate.

The winter season is cooler than the summer season, but has longer days and longer nights than the summer season. The average temperature is around 34 degrees centigrade. Some tourism officials refer to winter as the 'green season', as the landscape is covered with lush greenery and the birds are singing beautifully. It also tends to be the season when many of the Hindu festivals are celebrated, such as Pongal, Lohri, and Shivratri.

Winter is the coldest season of the year. Temperatures in the polar regions drop dramatically between summer and winter. In the northernmost city in the United States, Barrow, Alaska, for example, experiences total darkness between mid-November and January. Weather is affected by air pressure, and a high pressure area develops in the northern Himalayas. This causes the flow of wind towards the Indian subcontinent. During winter, the temperature in some areas drops below zero degrees, and snowfall is common.

A transitional Lucy 2 between winter and summer, spring is not as warm as summer, and has fewer daylight hours. Summer is the closest season to the Sun and has more extreme climate and weather patterns. It is also the time when the earth gets closer to the Sun, and the sun's rays reach the earth at its closest angle.

A major division of the year, seasons are based on changes in weather, climate, ecology, and the length of daylight. The northern hemisphere recognizes four seasons, while tropical and subtropical areas recognize three types of seasons, and may refer to a special season based on significant phenomena. Depending on the location, different cultures have different definitions for the seasons.

Although there is no fixed rule regarding which seasons are the most extreme, climate is determined by seasonal lag, and the amount of sunlight received. If there is a large gap in seasonal dates, it is possible that one of these factors could be the cause of the anomalous weather pattern. The Earth experiences vast temperature fluctuations at the poles, and it's no wonder that climates change.

In addition to humans, animals also change their behavior and diet according to the seasons. For example, a bird with young may not survive the winter without food. Thus, understanding the seasonality of our environment is important to our survival.
