How to Use the Remove Curse Spell in OD&D

In OD&D, the spell to remove curse is a fourth-level magic-user spell. It is also available for clerics and is part of the resuscitation spell set. In the first edition, there were three different cursed items: a sword with a -2 penalty to damage, a scroll with five different effects, and a ring of weakness. Of these, only the ring requires the use of a remove curse spell from a cleric.

In AD&D, the cleric of 12th level can use a spell called remove curse to break a lycanthrope's curse. However, this spell is only effective once on a transformed lycanthrope. After that, more powerful measures are necessary. So, if you're going to use this spell, make sure the NPC does not use the word "curse" to describe it. This way, you can avoid any confusion.

The target of a sterile spell is not affected by the remove curse spell at first level, but the effect is still visible. It changes the target into a different race and removes all of its racial stats and traits. This effect lasts for a decade, but it can be cured using a remove curse spell at the caster's level or by another means. As long as the target does not die within that timeframe, the spell can be used to remove the curse.

While a remove curse spell can be used to break a curse, it is ineffective if the caster is the original caster. A DM may also limit its use to certain conditions, but if the curse was created in a realm, shattering the totem at the source of the curse could break it. If you use a Removecurse spell, make sure to be leveled and at least a few levels higher than the curse caster.

The ability to remove curses from a creature or object can be learned via spellbooks. This spell requires a caster level check and the DC of each curse is listed in the Player's Handbook. This spell is a good choice for characters who are looking to make use of a curse-filled item. It's very effective, but it can only be used once per curse. It can also be used by anti-clerics and magic-users.

Using a remove curse spell is a quick way to get temporary relief. However, it is not effective against a 500-year-old lich or evil 3000-year-old artifact. Even if it gives you a 72-hour window, the curse will come back after the spell has been cast. You must dedicate spell slots to it and kill the lich. It won't work on fallen god-made artefacts.
