In time, she returned to the village, where the women of the village beat her up and she was left in great pain. Henna is a kind of traditional Indian flower which is used to create a beautiful look for both men and women. Interestingly, Esteghlal also depicts the way women treat men who are different from themselves. For instance, while some women are willing to accept the fact that a man is married to a woman from another community, others show extreme dislike towards the relationship. Therefore, Arundhati Roy has written a classic which is full of passion and vigor and covers some of the darkest aspects of the society.

Arundhati Roy has made Salehova a contemporary literary masterpiece. She has brought down the darkness of the past and made it relevant again for us to explore and understand our past, our present and the future of the country.
