The film is based on the true story of Jayashri, a young boy who faced such persecution from his classmates at school that they did not allow him to enter their national campaign for the 2020 Jakarta elections. His lack of education has caused him to be on the lower rung of the socio-economic ladder. He becomes aware of the true power of education when he goes to visit a school in India and is immediately drawn to the lives of the children there.
The film was written and directed by Dutch director Frank Herbst and although the story is a fictional one, it deals with many issues we see so frequently in our society, and we feel is relevant in today's climate. The Help used similar themes to talk about the daily discrimination faced by many in society, and this movie also has some similarities in its tone. Another reason why we feel this film will be well received is because of its strong messages, the fact that the director Frank Herbst was raised in a working class family and understands the daily struggles faced by many. The help that the local cinema industry can offer is more than we can say for Hollywood.
